"Family Happiness" (Keluarga Bahagia) by Leo Tolstoy Client: Pustaka Merah Hitam (Local Publisher, Makassar)
The Evolution of a Visual Narrative (2022 vs 2026 Redraw)
This project is a personal and professional milestone. In 2026, I decided to revisit and completely redraw my illustration for the book cover for "Family Happiness" by Leo Tolstoy, originally published by Pustaka Merah Hitam, a prominent local publisher in Makassar.
The 2026 version represents a significant leap in my visual storytelling. My focus shifted from simple character depiction to creating a deeply atmospheric and cinematic experience. Key improvements include:
Atmospheric Lighting: Contrasting the cold, misty blues of Saint Petersburg with the warm glow of vintage gas lamps.
Emotional Depth: Refining the character designs of Masha and Sergei to reflect the psychological weight and maturity of Tolstoy’s prose.
The Power of Crowd: Using a monochromatic crowd to symbolize Masha's isolation and the overwhelming nature of high society.
This redraw serves as a testament to my commitment to continuous growth and my passion for blending historical research with modern digital illustration.
