This project involved designing an interactive postcard to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The goal was to bridge traditional cultural festivities with modern technology using Augmented Reality (AR), creating a memorable and immersive greeting experience for the agency’s clients.
The creative direction was rooted in deep visual research of Chinese heritage, specifically focusing on the Year of the Rabbit. The development process involved several conceptual stages:
Cultural Symbolism: I explored key motifs such as the Rabbit (representing longevity and peace), the Barongsai (Lion Dance to ward off evil spirits), and Lampions (symbols of bright futures).
Color Theory: The palette was strictly built around Imperial Red and Gold, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity, balanced with modern accents to fit the agency’s contemporary aesthetic.
Visual Exploration: I developed multiple sketches and asset alternatives, experimenting with the fluidity of the rabbit’s form and the intricate textures of the Barongsai costume.
Interactive Design: Each asset was illustrated with "spatial movement" in mind, ensuring that when the AR was triggered, the layers—from the floating lanterns to the hopping rabbit—felt dynamic and three-dimensional.
Postcard Scetches & Ideations
By blending traditional iconography with an AR-enabled medium, the postcard transformed a static piece of mail into a living digital celebration. This project allowed me to explore how visual storytelling can evolve through technology while maintaining the soul of cultural traditions.
